It's Official - Shelby Supercar's Ultimate Aero Is The Fastest Production Car In The World

Have you ever heard of the Ultimate Aero supercar? I've got to admit, I had no idea this insanely fast hyper-car existed. I just watched a video of this production car - that's right, production car - blowing the doors off of the world speed record.

The Ultimate Aero took to the flatlands of Wyoming a couple months ago with representatives from Guinness World Records filming the whole run. This muscle-bound beauty was clocked at an astounding 256.18mph!

Manufactured by Shelby Supercars, this electrifying speed demon may share the legendary Shelby name, but it's no relation at all to Carroll Shelby or Shelby North America. In fact, Shelby Supercars is the brainchild of a guy by the name of Jerod Shelby.

Not only is the Ultimate Aero the fastest production car on the planet, it's also crazy good looking. It has the gull-wing doors that I absolutely love, plus its long, sleek lines are over-the-top gorgeous.

So what's under the hood of this "fast as lightning" supercar? The Ultimate Aero has a twin turbo V-8 producing a mind-blowing 1,183 horsepower at 6,950rpm. Weighing in at 2,750 dry weight pounds, that gives the Aero a 2.33 weight to horsepower ratio. That makes it not only the fastest, but also the most powerful production car in the world.

I've got to tell you, when I checked out the Shelby Supercars website I just about fell out of my chair. These guys have a program called the 250mph Club, and it offers members all the standard goodies like a newsletter and discounts on apparel. Pretty tame stuff. But right after that is where ordinary dropped off the radar and extraordinary stepped in.
