Recently, Classic Motorsports Magazine announced that racing legend Bob Bondurant will be honored as Grand Marshall of the upcoming Mitty 2008 Speedfest. The annual Mitty Speedfest will take place this year at Road Atlanta on May 2-4, 2008.
Bob Bondurant is certainly a familiar name to both the racing industry and racecar aficionados alike. A member of Carroll Shelby's history-making Ford Cobra racing team back in the 1960s, Bondurant made his mark as he won race after race in Europe. Today, he has gained international recognition as one of the world's leading authorities on driver training.
It's particularly fitting that Bondurant will be the Grand Marshall for the Mitty '08, as the theme for this year's event is Ford Power. All weekend long, Shelby classics like the Cobra, Shelby GT350 Mustang and Ford GT will be highlighted. This incredible weekend event will also feature classic Mustangs doing battle on the racetrack. Attendees will even be treated to the first race of the Ford Racing Mustang Challenge for the Miller Cup.
The Mustang Challenge is unique in that every driver is competing in a Ford Mustang FR500S, which is a factory-built racecar that rolls off the Ford assembly line ready to light up the track. Standard equipment includes a roll cage and plenty of racing safety gear.
But Ford won't be the only player at the Mitty 2008 Speedfest. The HSR Historic Racing Event will pit Ferraris of the ‘50s against Cobras, Corvettes and Jaguars of the ‘60s. Very cool.
And if you're a Formula One fan, you definitely don't want to miss the Mitty this year because the Historic Grand Prix will be kicking off its 2008 schedule here. That's right. You can actually experience the sights, sounds and incredible speed of the fastest Formula One racecars to burn up the racetrack in the last 50 years. Talk about an adrenaline rush!
The Mitty 2008 Speedfest sounds like the place to be for a weekend jam-packed with speed, history and a whole lot of fun.
