Portland Historics
In the Summer of 2005, I headed down to Portland with my son Justin to attend the Portland Historic Races and to meet-up with the guys from the local Cobra club. It was a great trip and event.
1
Allen English of Portland Oregon owns this stunning Mark II Roadster from Factory Five. I love everything about this car, so much so, it became the inspiration for the look of my own car.
2
This was a very nicely finished Factory Five replica at the Portland Historic Races. The paint was great and I like the carbon fiber looking spats.
3
This was another great looking car at the Portland Historics. I was quite suprised at how good this Factory Five cobra looks in bright yellow with two black stripes.
4
A beautifully finished Cobra kit car. I am not sure which kit was used, but it looks a little different than a Factory Five. The BF Goodrich tires look great on those rims.
5
The were a lot of great cars at the Portland Historic Races. Here is a few more of them, most from the Portland area Cascade Cobras club.
6
Here is a shot of just a few of the cars from Cascade Cobras, a very popular and active club in Portland, Oregon. They had more than 20 cars in attendance.
7
Two Cobras ready for a few laps around the track. The one on the left is an aluminum bodied car. I would imagine it was from Kirkham Motorsports.
8
Justin Martell, ready for his first ride in a Shelby Cobra out on the race track at the Portland Historic races back in 2005. Thumbs up.
9
Justin Martell completes his first lap at the Portland Historic Races back in the Summer of 2005. He could not get the smile off his face. :)
10
I was walking around the pits with my son Justin when we stumbled upon an original 427 Shelby Cobra. It was only the second original I had ever seen so it was quite a find for us. The first one was in a museum in Las Vegas.
11
As the owner of a replica, the most frequently asked question I hear is "is it an original?" I doubt the owner of this car ever gets asked.
12
I heard this engine as it went by me on the front straight away at about 160 miles an hour. As Carroll Shelby says "too much is just enough".
13
A great shot of the cockpit of an original Shelby Cobra. The top end of the speedometer is 160 miles an hour. The wood steering wheel is well worn.
14
I can see that the car is driven by Rick Bawden of Key Largo Racing. As you can see by the photo that this part of the body is in pretty good shape.
15
It was nice to see this Cobra in such rough shape. I bet there is great race history behind this car. I wish knew a little more about this Shelby.
