Ever imagine yourself racing against the cliffs of South Africa in a GT40?  Imagine the waves crashing in the background as you drive around the turns in a car that might have cost you 1 million pounds for an original. That’s what the company Hi-Tech has done by creating a Superformance GT40 Replica that you simply must see to believe. The price might also be the thing that makes your dream come true.

Superformance, LLC builds, designs, and imports sports cars and replicars from all over the world and South Africa is only one place you might see them. The company was originally named “Superformance International” but has grown since then to include 15 US dealers and 6 on the International scene. Now Hi-Tech Automotive has transferred their ownership of the company to the Hillbank Automotive Group and the cars are sold as turn-key kit-cars in the US so as to get around the emissions and safety issues.

As "kit cars", the different models from Superformance are built with only the engine and transmission missing. Then individual dealers install the engines after the customer has already purchased the car. The GT40 is Superformance's newest model and it really looks great in this video shot live in South Africa. From there, the driver takes you to a racetrack where he really goes wild on the turns!

As many people know, the first GTs to be built were replicas of the famous Ford GT40 MKII A.  This was the car that finished first, second, and third overall at the Le Mans 24 Hour Race in 1966. Of course, the SPF GT is different from other Ford GT40 replicas because it’s the only one to be built with a monocoque chassis. The chassis is an exact replica of the original and over 90% of the parts on this car are actually interchangeable with the original.

When you talk about originality, the SPF GT is so close that it is actually being evaluated by experts for it’s historic racing eligibility. Most of these cars are eventually sold in the US, as the driver and narrator of the video will explain in more detail.  He also points out the additions of a hidden air conditioning unit, modern brakes, and a left hand drive layout. Did you say air conditioning in a racecar?

The particular model seen on YouTube has a 6.5 Liter engine but only cost 60,000 pounds as a replica. When he takes it on the racetrack for a test, you will really feel like you are driving it yourself. Just watching this guys heartbeat pickup is pretty exhilarating.. Check out the test drive yourself on the video below and watch those cliffs!
