The dawn of, what they now call “Slab Side”, first started way back in the 50's when Carroll Shelby used to race cars in Europe and South America.  Back in those days, Shelby always had one dream.  While racing across the heated pavement and daydreaming about the future, he wanted to produce the world's fastest sports car. Shelby Cobra Replica owners still keep the dream alive today and they call it “slab side” when they purchase a new 289 KMS/ Street.

Slab side refers to the lack of fender flares on the new model. It's got a great look that draws in a lot of customers. Originally, Shelby had wanted to build the world's fastest sports car and the look was only secondary.  He wanted to become a legend and had begun designing his car with an already chosen name.  Who knew it would become the “Cobra” and it would be faster than any car could even come close to?

In 1963, Shelby had set out to prove his dream and he wanted to destroy the competition by challenging the Sting Rays in the first US manufacturers' championship. That year, the Cobra dominated the track and took the title with one hundred and eleven points. It was well above Ferrari's measly twenty-eight points and Chevy's nineteen. Shelby had proven himself beyond all doubt. In fact, all but one of the seven races were won by a Cobra that year and this has paved the way for the Shelby Cobra replica

Now, bringing back the spirit of the 60's, the Shelby Cobra Replica is here and it is a perfect reproduction of the Cobra. Starting at $44,995, the car is exactly as the original with a perfect 289 engine. The car has original style suspension, with transverse leaf springs, “slab side” front flares and fiberglass fender spats just like the '63 cars.

Shelby had poured his blood, sweat and tears into some amazing modifications. He made it possible for a car to handle the huge torque produced by a Ford 260 V8 so that, today, the KMS/ Street is equally impressive. It takes over where the Cobra left off.  The manufacturers are calling it “The little roadster that could” and you can check out the “slab side” for yourself and see just what Shelby was dreaming about.
